The crew abandoned ship, and the rusting hull remains embedded in the white pebbles today. In September 2018, a rockfall from the unstable limestone cliffs injured seven tourists on boats anchored offshore, prompting emergency closures and new exclusion zones around the base of the escarpment. The incident forced Greek authorities to restrict boat landings and establish a seasonal access calendar to manage crowding and geological risk. Conservation groups have since called for limits on daily arrivals to protect both the fragile coastline and the corroding wreck itself.
